Maiden ‘Zee Maharashtra Kusti Dangal’ opens to an impressive start in Pune

2nd Nov 2018, Pune: Zee Maharashtra Kushti Dangal kick started its inaugural season with cries of ‘Maar Musandi’ charging up the atmosphere at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mahalunge, Balewadi Pune. The ancient sport received a fresh revival in an exciting format with 6 teams representing the strong wrestling heritage of Maharashtra. Scheduled from 2nd November to 18th November, Zee Maharashtra Kusti Dangal would see a plethora of regional, national and international wrestling champions battle it out for the ultimate prize and maiden titleship. Conceptualized by Zee Talkies, Zee Maharashtra Kusti Dangal is a first of its kind event in Maharashtra.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Shri. Sharad Pawar, Head – Maharashtra Kusti Parishad, Mr. Amit Goenka, CEO – International Broadcast Business – ZEEL along with celebrities like Sai Tamhankar, Nagraj Manjule, Swapnil Joshi, Sonali Kulkarni, Akash Thosar, Tanaji Galgunde, Salim Shaikh, Mansi Naik, Deepali Sayyed, Surekha Punekar, Siddharth Bodke etc. Ace dancer Gashmir Mahajani danced on the foot tapping ‘Maar Musandi’ anthem and enlivened the atmosphere.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shri. Sharad Pawar, Head – Maharashtra Kusti Parishad said, “Our country and Maharashtra has nurtured years of wrestling tradition. Today, there is a great need to encourage young wrestlers from the villages and showcase them to the world. I am sure that the both new and established players will get the encouragement and the opportunity from Zee Maharashtra Kusti Dangal; and I hope that this great event will receive appreciation from the audience as well. Mr. Amit Goenka, CEO – International Broadcast Business – ZEEL said, “Wrestling is a four thousand-year-old tradition and I would like to thank the Wrestling Federation of India and Maharashtra Wrestling Council for continuing this ancient tradition. Wrestling has a special importance in Maharashtra and through Zee Maharashtra Kusti Dangal we will try to encourage the players and grow interest for this game.”
The six teams representing Maharashtra are Veer Marathwada (owned by Nagraj Manjule), Kolhapuri Mavle (owned by Sai ​​Tamhankar), Vidharbhache Wagh (owned by Swapnil Joshi), Yashwant Satara (owned by Purushottam Jadhav), Puneri Ustad (owned by Shantaram Manve and Paritosh Painter) and Mumbai Astra (owned by Pranav Dake) in the wrestling championship. Each team will play freestyle in accordance with Wrestling Federation of India rules. Starting 2nd November, there would be a total of 12 bouts between four teams and the same would be telecast live on Zee Talkies between 6pm and 10pm.
